The Fatal Dose
Oh God!!! This world stinks... But i won't be the other normal life on this earth. I will be a broom and try to sweep it clean...
I recently came to know that Vicks Action 500 is banned. On further investigation [googling :) ] i came to know that it contains phenylpropanolamine (PPA) which causes stroke. Already European and North American countries banned it. Unfortunately the Indian drug control system has not banned the use of PPA in India.
If you are prone to coughs/colds and sinus related problems, then before taking any medicine have a look at its composition and if you find phenylpropanolamine (PPA) then just throw it away. Not only this medicine but lot of other medicines too contain harmful ingredients. For eg, Novalgin, a pain-kill which contains Analgin causes bone marrow depression resulting in blood cancer. So, before taking any medicine just google it and know about its side effects.
What is PPA?
Substance that's banned in US, but present in drugs sold here.
Why is it dangerous?
Can cause a stroke independently, without other factors. Can cause strokes in healthy people, even with recommended dose on single use. Women more susceptible.
Which drugs have PPA?
D'Cold, Vicks Action 500, Actifed, Actifed Plus syrup, Coldarin, Wincold,Cetrizet-D, Eskold, Alex capsules, Alex pediatric drops, Alex cough formula, Tuspress, Tixylix, Contac CC, Cosome.
